The route.

The Round Britain challenge.

Although we are experienced sailors, this challenge goes beyond what we have attempted before. To start with, it’s 5 times further and 4 times longer than we’ve ever done in a season. It’s a marathon that’s for sure.

We start and finish at Swanage, leaving late April / early May. heading anticlockwise. Up to Inverness. Through the Caledonian Canal, then going North and clockwise round the top of Scotland back to Inverness. Through the Caledonian again and then south on the way home.

That’s the basic route and may or may not include Outer Hebrides, Shetland , Orkneys and parts of northern and southern Ireland.

The weather and tides will play a big part in deciding our course, but there all sorts of other dangers to avoid, including wind farms, oil and gas rigs, rocks, sandbanks, submarines, whirlpools,(yes whirlpools) and maybe even the Loch Ness monster.
